Carrollton, GA December 22, 2005 – One day after earning their first All-America notices of the year, a pair of West Georgia football stalwarts have again found their names listed among the nations elite.
Linebacker Kelvin Morris and punter Jeff Carpenter were Wednesday named to the 2005 D2football.com All-America Team. Morris, a linebacker from Timmonsville, S.C., was named to the first team defense. Carpenter, a senior from Cumming, was named the second team punter.
The squad was chosen was by members of the D2football.com staff, which evaluated players from across the country for the honor.
Neither player is a stranger to the All-America recognition. Both were earlier named to the CollegeSportsReport.com All-Division II Team. Morris was chosen to the first team, and Carpenter to the third. Also, Morris was named a second team member of the Daktronics Division II All-America Team.
The latest All-America recognition adds to an already impressive list of kudos for both players. Morris and Carpenter were both first team members of the All-Gulf South Conference Team; Morris chosen as the leagues defensive player of the year. Also, both were first team selections to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team.
West Georgias all-time All-America roster at the Division II level now numbers 15. Also, Carpenter is among seven UWG players to earn All-America honors in more than one season. The others are cornerback Corey Jarrells (1996, 97), offensive tackles Chris Williams (1997, 98) and Abed Taha (1999, 2000), safety Nate Coggins (2000, 01), cornerback Marquis Floyd (2000, 01) and tailback Nick Price (2000, 01).
