Carrollton, GA December 1, 2005 – West Georgias resurgence during the recent football season has been both recognized and rewarded. Five members of the 2005 Braves were Wednesday named to the 2005 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team.
Three UWG players were first team all-region selections. The list includes senior linebacker Kelvin Morris, the 2005 GSC Defensive Player of the Year, senior punter Jeff Carpenter, a repeat selection from last year, and junior defensive end Odell Willis. Linebacker Brandon Jamison and tailback Abe Felix were both second team selections.
This is a very deserving honor for these outstanding young men, said West Georgia coach Mike Ledford. They all had great seasons for us, and its a big honor for them and for our program.
The all-region team was selected in a vote among members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from throughout the region.
All five UWG selections had earlier received conference honors. Morris, Carpenter, Willis and Jamison were all selected to the All-GSC First Team, while Felix was a second team all-conference choice. Also, Carpenter and Morris have been chosen to play in Januarys Cactus Bowl, the national Division II All-Star game played in Kingsville, Texas.
For Morris, Carpenter, and Willis the selection to the All-Southeast First Team comes with a bonus. Each will now be included on the national All-America ballot. The Daktronics All-America Team will be announced December 15.
