Harrogate, TN – October 25, 2005 – For a budding program in any sport, that first win is the most important. The West Georgia men’s and women’s squads got their wish Tuesday afternoon in Harrogate, TN.
UWG’s women’s team finished in first place in the LMU Fall Invitational, 57 strokes ahead of second-place Lincoln Memorial. It is the first win for the budding program. West Georgia’s Helena Harbridge won the tourney with a 161 score over two rounds. Natalie Beach, Carrie Parker and Amanda Horn finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the men’s side, Josh Chong became the first UWG golfer to win a tournament, as he shot a 141 to hang on for a three-shot victory. Chong shot a blazing 68 on Monday to lead after day one, then hung on to the advantage for his and the Braves’ first win.
As a team, West Georgia finished second to North Alabama in the LMU Fall Invitational with a team score of 599. UNA was four shots ahead to win the team title.
The tourney was the final event for UWG golf in the fall.
