Carrollton, GA – May 31, 2005 – West Georgia’s 2004-05 golf season, the school’s first in a decade, had moments both high and low. In its search for a new head coach, UWG looked for a leader to bring consistency and excellence to the program.
Ed Murphy, West Georgia¹s athletic director, believes he has found such a coach in the person of Jeff King. Murphy has announced the appointment of King to the post of head golf coach for UWG’s second-year men’s golf program. King will also serve as head coach for new women’s program when it begins play during the 2005-06 academic year.
“Jeff has an excellent background and knowledge of the game, and we¹re fortunate to have him in charge of our program,” said Murphy.
King takes over a program that finished the 2005 season without a permanent head coach. Joe Culverhousein the season.
Though this will be King’s first collegiate coach spot, he brings impressive credentials to the West Georgia post. His resume’ includes four years as head pro and general manager at Meadow Lakes Golf Club near Cedartown. Previously, King served from 1996-2000 in a similar capacity for American Golf Corporation, a company that manages more than 200 premier private, resort and daily fee courses in the United States.
King is a native of nearby Tallapoosa, and was a multi sport athlete at Mount Zion High School. He played collegiate golf at West Georgia (1990-92), though his career was curtailed by injury. King earned his bachelor’s degree in history from West Georgia in 1995.
