On the men’s side, not enough Braves finished the race to place, but Shawn Matthews led the way with a 22nd place run of 35:54. Mike Brannon was the second UWG runner to cross the finish line with a time of 37:13, good for 45th place. The two other UWG finishers were Danny Wiley (38:30 – 71st) and Bobby Ralston (39:56 – 94th).
Conger’s 23:20 effort was the second fastest run by a freshman at the South Regional this year and put her in 16th place, one place away from All-Region status. Her fastest time of 18:16 earlier this season at the Auburn run was the best ever by a UWG freshman. The Braves finished two points behind ninth-place West Florida in the event.
“For our team, this was a successful season,” said head coach Don Medeiros. “We had three of our top seven runners who had never competed in cross-country before, so to have this kind of showing is encouraging.”
Two other Braves, Katie Perkins adn Jessie Reyniers, finished in the top-50 of the Regional. Perkins finished 38th with a time of 24:32 and Reyniers three seconds later in 39th.
The final two UWG finishers were Julie Terrill (27:09 – 100th) and Carolin Binnion (27:14 – 101st).
