Looking for a new head coach to continue the building process of West Georgia volleyball, athletic director Ed Murphy needed a youthful vibrance to the UWG sideline as well as Gulf South Conference experience. He found just that in former West Alabama star Regan Adams, who became the fifth West Georgia volleyball coach in its 27-year history on July 1, 2005. Regan Adams comes to Carrollton following two seasons as an assistant coach for the Toledo Rockets.

At UT Adams worked primarily with middle blockers in addition to serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator. She was also intimately involved in day-to-day coaching activities, including on-floor coaching, scouting and academic planning.

Prior to her stint in Toledo, Adams served for two years (2001-02) as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Alabama. In Adams’ two seasons in Tuscaloosa, she was a vital cog in a pair of winning seasons (22-9 in 2001 and 19-15 in 2002). Her responsibilities included scouting opponents, producing weekly recruiting material as well as on-floor coaching.

A Birmingham, AL native, Adams also served as an intern for USA Volleyball’s High Performance National Programs in 2002. She spent seven months helping manage and operate several USA Volleyball youth and junior national programs, including the inaugural Youth, Junior A2 and Developmental camps in Colorado Springs, CO.

Adams, 26, was a three-time all-conference volleyball standout at West Alabama. She served as the Tigers’ team captain for two seasons and earned three all-academic team honors.

One look at the UWA record book and Adams’ name litters the pages. She holds the all-time record for career kills, service aces and blocks and is fifth all-time in digs and hitting percentage. She holds the top two single-season kills per game average with 3.38 in 1999 and 3.64 in 2000. Adams also is still the leader in kills and service aces in an individual match.

She graduated in December of 2000 from West Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a cumulative GPA of 3.8. She then received her master’s degree in human performance from Alabama in December of 2002.
