West Georgia places five on All-GSC squad

Carrollton, GA – May 15, 2005 – Post season honors were extended Friday to six members of the West Georgia Braves baseball team. The group was chosen for berths on the 2005 All-Gulf South Conference Baseball Team.

Leading the West Georgia contingent was a pair of players chosen to the All-GSC East First Team. Catcher Jared Rolen and pitcher Tyler Meigs earned the nod in a vote among the division’s head coaches.

Rolen, a senior from Griffin, a spot on the All-GSC East First Team for the second straight season. For the season, Rolen posted a batting average of .301, including a team-best 10 homers. Also, his 35 RBI ranked second on the squad.

For Meigs, the all-conference honor came in his first season in a Braves uniform. The junior from Bowdon posted a 7-3 record and an ERA of 2.37, fifth-best in the GSC. Also, his 113 strikeouts led the conference and broke the 31-year old school record of 112 held by former Atlanta Braves star Rick Camp.

Beyond Rolen and Meigs, three other UWG players earned All-GSC East Second Team honors. Voted to the squad were shortstop Corey Consuegra, third baseman Jim Baeumel, and outfielder Adam Pritchard. Consuegra was a senior in 2005, while Baeumel and Pritchard were both juniors.
