Willis earns GSC Defensive Player of the Week honor

Carrollton, GA – November 8, 2005 – A record-setting performance for a West Georgia Braves defender has earned accolades from the Gulf South Conference. Junior end Odell Willis has been named the Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his record-setting performance in last Saturday’s win at Valdosta State.

Willis, a native of Yantley, Ala., was UWG’s defensive leader in the 29-15 win over the Blazers. He was officially credited with five tackles, including four quarterback sacks totaling 35 yards in losses. He also forced a fumble, one-of-seven Valdosta State turnovers in the game.

Willis’ four-sack performance established a new West Georgia single game record, eclipsing the old mark shared by three players. Also, the total was the highest for any Gulf South Conference player this season.

The GSC honor was only the second of the season for a West Georgia player. Linebacker Kelvin Morris captured the honor for last month’s performance in West Georgia’s win over Southern Arkansas.
