Braves overtake GSCU in All-Georgia Finale

Carrollton, Ga. – November 26, 2005 – The second day of action in the All-Georgia Classic featured a pair of exciting matchups. The West Georgia Braves bested Georgia College and State 68-53 and Columbus State outraced Morehouse 82-73. The Cougars were the only team undefeated at this year’s AGC.

Chris Burras and Antonio Shaw had double-doubles for the Braves Saturday night in leading West Georgia to a 68-53 win.

The Braves clung to a 29-28 lead at halftime, but pulled away in the second half for the 15-point win. The Bobcats held close for the first nine minutes of the period, staying within five points of UWG until the 11:19 point.

With the Braves leading 45-41, Andrius Petkunas was fouled by GCSU’s Andre Smith while shooting a three-pointer. Petkunas responded to the foul by hitting all three free-throws and West Georgia was off to the races.

The lead reached as much as 17 points with just under a minute left in the game before head coach Ed Murphy called off the dogs.

Burras had 21 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Shaw with 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was the second double-double of the 2005-06 season for both players and the sixth of their respective careers at West Georgia.

The Braves move to 4-2 on the year while GCSU falls to 2-3. West Georgia’s next contest is Monday night, December 5, at Clark-Atlanta.
