Shaw earns Weekly GSC Honors

Carrollton, GA – November 30, 2005 – The West Georgia Braves have produced their first award winner for the 2005-06 basketball season.

UWG senior forward Antonio Shaw was Wednesday named GSC East Player of the Week for his performances in last week’s All-Georgia Classic. A senior from Abbeville, Miss., Shaw captured the honor for the first time in his Braves career.

Shaw posted impressive numbers as the Braves posted a 1-1 mark in games vs. state rivals Columbus State and Georgia College and State. He averaged a double-double for the weekend, 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Highlighting the numbers was a shooting percentage of 80.0% from the field (16-20).

Shaw averaged 4.5 assists per game in last week’s contest. Also, he was a stalwart defensively in Saturday’s win over GCSU. He helped hold the Bobcats’ scoring leader, Jeremy Mayweather, to but nine points on the evening.

For the season, Shaw is averaging an impressive 17.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He has been a primary contributor to the Braves’ 4-2 start to the season.

After taking this week off from the season, UWG returns to the floor next week for three games. The Braves travel Monday to face Clark-Atlanta, then make a Wednesday trip to Fort Valley State. The week concludes with a Saturday visit from nationally ranked Catawba.
