Braves too much for Miles

Cleveland, MS – November 19, 2005 – It didn’t take long for the UWG Braves to flex their collective muscle Saturday night, as the Braves jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest with Miles and never looked back, cruising to an 81-63 victory on the campus of Delta State.

Antonio Shaw and Chris Burras each had a double-double on the night, the fifth for each in their careers as Braves. Shaw led all scorers with 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, including eight offensive. Burras had 13 points and 13 boards on the night. Andrius Petkunas continued to scorch the nets, coming off the bench and hitting 5-of-7 three-pointers to score 21.

The UWG defense was suffocating in the first half, allowing just 18 points for the Golden Bears before intermission. West Georgia allowed Miles just 24 points in the first 20 minutes of the contest.

The Golden Bears pulled to within 16 twice in the second half, but could never punch through that barrier. The Braves continued to play smart basketball, using an 18-6 assist-to-turnover margin to upend Miles. UWG point guard Adam Stanger led the charge with seven assists and no turnovers. The freshman from Australia has 17 assists on the year and just one turnover.

West Georgia moves to 3-0 on the year and concludes the road trip on Monday evening with a date at Henderson State.
