Braves too powerful for visiting DSU

Carrollton, Ga. – October 23, 2005 – The West Georgia Braves took out the frustration of a tough loss on Friday as two Braves collected hat tricks and the UWG defense allowed no shots en route to a 9-0 blasting of Delta State on Sunday afternoon.

Although leading scorer Sara Sohlberg had a hat trick, the headliner on the afternoon was junior Donna Evans, who kicked off the scoring 57 seconds into the match. the goal came on a corner kick from Samantha Jones and Evans’ header found the back of the net for a quick 1-0 lead.

Jones wasn’t done on the afternoon, assisting Sohlberg on the Braves’ second goal, this one in the 13th minute. Sohlberg struck three minutes later to give West Georgia a commanding 3-0 lead.

But the first half scoring wasn’t through, as Evans had two other goals in the half to complete her hat trick, the first in her West Georgia career. The three goals give Evans four on the season. Jones had three assists on the afternoon, giving her seven on the year, good for second on the team.

Brittany Carr added a pair of goals to bring her season total to nine and Alex Udin also had her fourth goal of the year. Maz Sweeney kept the team lead in assists with two on the afternoon.
Br> West Georgia is now 12-5-1 on the year and 5-2-1 in the Gulf South Conference with two games remaining.
