Harrogate, TN – October 9, 2005 – Sunday was the West Georgia Braves’ first major test in Gulf South Conference play this season, and the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters, ranked #20 in the nation, upended the Braves with a 1-0 win.
For the second straight match, the Braves’ leading scorer, Sara Sohlberg, was unable to score against a tough defense. But it wasn’t just Sohlberg, as the Braves managed just four shots on goal and nine shots total on the afternoon. It was just the third time this season that an opponent has out-shot West Georgia. All three were the only UWG losses of the season.
West Georgia keeper Lauren Camp was stellar on the afternoon, facing eight shots from the Lady Railsplitters and turning away seven. Kristen Boujos had the only goal of the day in the 32nd minute.
The Braves fall to 9-3-1 on the season while LMU moves to 10-2. West Georgia is 3-1-1 in GSC play and Lincoln with 5-1. UWG hosts Saint Leo on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
