Carrollton, Ga. – December 19, 2005 – It is a historic day for West Georgia athletics, as junior forward Maz Sweeney was named to the NSCAA All-American squad, becoming the first women’s soccer All-America at West Georgia.
The Donegal, Ireland, native scored eight goals and had a team-leading 10 assists on the season. She was vital to the Braves’ success in the middle part of the year when leading scorer Sara Sohlberg was nursing a sore ankle.
The award is the third of this postseason for Sweeney. She was named First Team All-GSC, then First Team NSCAA All-South Region before earning a spot on the Third Team NSCAA All-America squad.
Sweeney becomes the first women’s All-America at West Georgia since the 1993-94 academic year when Rozetha Burrow earned All-American status in women’s basketball.
