Carrollton, GA October 18, 2005 – For the first time this season a member of the West Georgia Braves has captured a league honors. UWG senior linebacker Kelvin Morris was Monday named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Morris honor came following a superlative performance in West Georgias 31-14 win over Southern Arkansas. The native of Timmonsville, S.C., notched 13 total tackles vs. the Muleriders, including eight solos. He also had three tackles for loss, and one quarterback sack.
With last weeks performance, Morris maintains his status as the GSC leader in tackles for loss with 16 (13 solo, six assists). Also, he ranks fourth in the conference in quarterback sacks with 5.5.
Beyond his league prize, Morris was honored by the Braves coaches as UWGs top defensive player in win over Southern Arkansas.
