UWG rises above Fort Valley on the road

Fort Valley, Ga. – December 7, 2005 –Michael McCowan’s block with just seconds remaining in Wednesday night’s contest at Fort Valley State sealed West Georgia’s sixth win of the season, a 71-69 overtime in-region victory.

The contest was a defensive struggle the entire night, and neither team was able to gain a sizeable advantage on the other. The Braves’ largest lead of the night was four points and FVSU’s largest lead was seven late in the second half.

Michael Ford continued to knock the rust off in his second game in a UWG uniform, leading all scorers on the evening with 23 points. The senior was seven-of-10 from the free-throw line, including two huge shots with just seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Antonio Shaw collected his seventh double-double as a Brave, hitting for 16 points and 11 rebounds on the evening. Chris Burras was the only other Brave in double figures, scoring 11 points.

The Braves are now 6-2 on the year and return home on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to face-off with 11th ranked Catawba at the HPE Building.
