Sweeney, Sohlberg named NSCAA All-Region

Carrollton, Ga. – December 5, 2005 – The firsts keep on coming for West Georgia’s soccer program. In their first season in a UWG uniform, Maz Sweeney and Sara Sohlberg were both named to the NSCAA All-South Region team.

Sweeney was named a First-Team performer after an eight goal, 10 assist season. She was the Braves best offensive performer when Sohlberg was injured during mid-season. Her best game came against Noth Greenville College on October 18, when she had a goal and three assists in the contest.

The award is the second for the junior from Donegal, Ireland. Sweeney was named first-team All-Gulf South Conference by the GSC coaches at the end of the season.

Sohlberg, the GSC Co-Player of the Year, was named Second Team All-Region. The junior from Voxnabruk, Sweden was second in the nation in scoring with 27 goals in 16 games for a 1.50 goals per game average. She also was third in the nation in points per game with 3.33 ppg.

Sohlberg introduced herself to Carrollton in a mighty way on August 25, scoring four goals in the Braves’ first game of the year against Armstrong Atlantic State. She had four hat-tricks in the 2005 season, with her best game coming against North Greenville on October 18, when she scored five goals.

The two All-Region peformers are the first in the young history of West Georgia women’s soccer.
