Burras shines in West Georgia’s triumph

Atlanta, GA – December 5, 2005 – Senior Chris Burras had his third double-double of the season in leading the West Georgia Braves to an 86-52 win over the Clark-Atlanta Panthers in Atlanta Monday night.

West Georgia and CAU came out of the gate slowly, with neither team gaining an advantage in the opening minutes of the contest. But with the score 15-14, the Braves went on a 12-0 run to break the first half wide open. UWG led at the break by a 31-21 count.

After halftime, Clark-Atlanta made its only run of the night, cutting the West Georgia lead in half in the first two minutes of the period. But then Michael Ford, playing in his first game in a West Georgia uniform, stepped in and led the UWG exposion. The senior had 13 points, seven assists and three steals in his first game since playing with Southern Mississippi last year. Ford played 28 minutes in the contest.

Antonio Shaw was quietly the Braves leading scorer on the night, netting 19 points. Andrius Petkunas and Burras both added 17 points while Burras pulled down 12 rebounds. His double-double was the seventh of his career at West Georgia.

The Braves move to 5-2 on the season and head to Fort Valley State this Wednesday evening for another in-state and region battle.
